Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán has arrived in the Chinese capital, Beijing, to meet the Chinese president Xi Jinping. Orbán’s spokesman and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs talk about it in their own press releases.

This is Orbán’s third surprise visit since Hungary took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in early July. Last week he visited Ukraine and Russia and said he was on a “peace mission”.

During his visit to Ukraine, Orbán called on Ukraine to quickly agree to a cease-fire to enable peace negotiations with Russia.

Among other things, the EU countries and the defense alliance NATO have underlined that Orbán does not have the authority to represent any party other than Hungary in his meetings.
