During the current year, at least three people have died at the company’s factory in northern Sweden. The environmental crime investigation unit of the Swedish police is investigating the deaths.
Another accident has occurred at the factory of Northvolt, which manufactures electric car batteries in northern Sweden, reports the Swedish Broadcasting Company SVT.
Two people were taken to hospital on Sunday after they were suspected of being exposed to electrolyte vapor at the company’s laboratory in Skellefteå.
According to the company’s spokesperson, the accident occurred in the factory’s quality control laboratory as part of routine work. In connection with these works, one worker was exposed to some kind of vapor for a few seconds. Another person was not exposed, but was nearby in protective equipment, says Northvolt’s press manager Matt Kataja in the bulletin.
– Our own personnel from the internal rescue service got there quickly and the employees were cleaned even before the ambulance arrived. The employees were then taken to the hospital for further examinations, says Kataja in the press release.
After the examinations, the employees were told that they are fine and have been released from the hospital, the release adds.
According to a press release from the health authorities, two people were slightly injured in the accident after inhaling electrolyte vapor generated during battery manufacturing.
