Sommerkollo attracts pensioners: “You have so much fun”

Going on a summer trip and meeting new friends is common for children this year.
But pensioners are also attracted to the concept.
– I have met a lot of new people that I would never have met otherwise, says Helen Walker, 67.

At Skogsgården in Sätra Brunn, a group of pensioners aged 66 and older have gathered for a summer party. The initiative comes from the City of Sundbyberg.

Solveig Gustavsson is 88 years old and made her first time at the summer poll in 2010.

– You have so much fun. Today we danced line dancing, which I like. There were many positive dancers. For some it was the first time and others had done it before, she says.

– I didn’t think I would come this year, because I have been there so many times. But now I have a walker, so maybe they feel sorry for me – I used to have canes, adds Solveig Gustavsson and laughs.

Dance, water gym and boules

Among the activities during the week are boule, water gym, swimming and board games. Participants are offered food and accommodation.

– It’s a ten-star hotel, says Helen Walker, 67 years old.

For Helen Walker, it is the first time with the concept of a summer school.

– I have met a lot of new people that I would never have met otherwise, she says.

The initiative from the City of Sundbyberg is based on promoting the health of the elderly in the municipality through activities, company and a change of environment.

– Above all, it’s a change of environment and that they get to meet new and old friends, says Amanda Hodzic, health educator in Sundbyberg City, and adds:

– Everyone is so keen that everyone should participate and that no one should sit alone, says Amanda Hodzic, health educator in Sundbyberg City.
