23:00 – Summary of the day
While five French players were expected to play in the third round at Wimbledon this Saturday, only four had the chance to set foot on the London grass. Lucas Pouille had to withdraw very early in the day against De Minaur due to abdominal pain. Humbert, for his part, qualified very early for the last 16 by finishing his match yesterday against Nakashima (7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6). Having started badly against Ruusuvuori, Lyon’s Mpetschi Perricard joined him in the next round thanks to a serve that was still as devastating (4-6, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4)
The other two Frenchmen had to battle it out in five rounds with varying fortunes, Arthur Son won against Roman Safiullin (4-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3), while Halys collapsed physically against Rune after an excellent start to the match (6-1, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 1-6). The day’s results were rather positive for the last French players involved: 3 out of 5
In the rest of the men’s draw, the favorites did not tremble, Medvedev, Djokovic and Zverev were there despite a few tight sets. Unlike the world number 1, Iga Swiatek who leaves the tournament after a humiliating defeat against Putintseva (6-3, 1-6, 2-6). The other Kazakh player Rybakina made short work of Wozniacki (6-1, 6-1), as did Svitolina who got the better of Jabeur (6-1, 7-6).
Tomorrow is a rest day at Wimbledon before a Crazy Monday with all the round of 16 matches in the men’s and women’s draws.
Thank you for following this beautiful day with us.
