England further in the football European Championship after penalty drama

The English set all their penalties. In Switzerland, it was Manuel Akanji who became the scapegoat, and was the only penalty saver in the shootout. After the decision, Akanji was seen thanking the Swiss supporters in tears.

In regular time, it was Switzerland who opened the scoring in the 75th minute. Dan Ndoye played the ball in from the right wing and Breel Embolo dived and was able to poke the ball in.

Five minutes later, England equalized through Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal player’s solo raid.

I had faith, it felt like we dominated the match, and I knew the chance would come and I took the chance, says Saka after the match.

Substitute Xherdan Shaqiri had a ball over the crossbar for Switzerland, which was the closest the teams came to a decider in regular time.

England have now turned a deficit into promotion on two occasions in the championship.

It shows how badly we want to win this tournament, to come back from two games down. Hopefully we can win the next game after 90 minutes, but if that’s what it takes, we’ll do it, says Saka.

England will face the winner of the Netherlands-Turkey semi-final, kick-off 21.00.
