Spending the summer at campsites around Sweden, summer is part of it for many.

In many ways, a campsite resembles a small community, with routines, norms and unwritten rules. Of course, the “long-timers” – those who spend the whole summer at the campsite – have the best knowledge of these.

The unwritten rule at the campsite

In an interview with Expressen, a long-termer at Sibbarp’s campsite in Malmö has said that “foreigners”, the term for campers who stay for a shorter period, tend to break an unwritten rule.

“Red ribbon means…”

Order and order are of the highest priority at campsites. But there are also little tricks the campers use to signal that they want some closeness.

– Red ribbon tied on the caravan means that you are looking for companionship of a sexual nature. And green ribbon tied on the caravan means welcoming new acquaintances on a friendly level, says a long-termer The Express.

However, not all campers seem to know that meaning. In some cases, colored tapes are used to mark plot boundaries and keep unauthorized guests away from their vacation zone.
