At least ten people have died in Hurricane Beryl’s progress across the Caribbean. The storm has now hit the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico with winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour.

Advertising signs have been torn down, trees have fallen and the power has gone out in many places.

Heavy downpours have hit popular tourist towns such as Cancún and Tulum and hundreds of tourists have been evacuated from hotels. More than 300 flights have been canceled or delayed, the BBC reports.

The hurricane has been downgraded to a tropical storm but is expected to strengthen as it continues across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.
