It looks like the biggest loss in the party’s 190-year history awaits the conservative Tories. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is even at risk of losing his seat in Parliament himself, which would be the first time ever for a sitting Prime Minister.

On the other side is the labor party Labour, which according to the opinion figures looks to be the superior winner, with roughly 430 mandates out of a total of . The party is led since 2020 by Sir Keir Starmer.
Some believe that Labour’s success is based on a great dissatisfaction with the Tory Party.

That’s why the British complain
Since 2010, conservative Tories have had a majority mandate in parliament, but now everything points to a big loss for Rishi Sunak’s party. James Savage, editor-in-chief of Britain’s The Local, believes that the Tories’ poor numbers are partly a result of a poorer economy.
– Incomes have shrunk more during this mandate than during any other mandate in modern history, people feel poorer, he says.
– You hope for someone else, you want to change teams and see how it goes, and want to vote for Labor to get rid of the Tory Party.
Gambling offenses – “Another scandal”
In June, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for re-election. In connection with the re-election being announced, several party members and people who work closely with the Prime Minister were suspected of gambling offences. It was then about people betting money on the election date after receiving insider information.
– This is yet another scandal for the Tory Party, which has been surrounded by many scandals, it has been a very difficult period for them, James Savage told SVT earlier.

Why choose now?
The Prime Minister himself can decide when an election to the House of Commons is to be held, but a maximum of five years may pass between elections. The fact that Sunak announced elections already now surprised many.
– It was a momentum. It is believed that he thought that the situation would not get better than this, as it seems it was not a successful venture, says SVT’s foreign reporter Anna Maja Persson.
When the election was called, there were new improved inflation figures and a new law in place to more easily send illegal refugees abroad.
