According to a leak revealed by AndroidAuthority, upcoming updates to Google Pixel phones will add a feature that has already been heavily criticized.
Google has already set a date for the official announcement of its next Pixel phones. On August 13, the firm plans to hold a major conference to fully unveil the Google Pixel 9 as well as new features based on artificial intelligence.
While the new Google Pixel 9 and Google Pixel 9 Pro have already been widely leaked online, this was not yet the case for announcements concerning Google’s AI. This is now done thanks to the AndroidAuthority site, which was able to get its hands on several internal documents detailing the new features to come in Pixel phones. All grouped under the heading “Google AI”, we find several already well-known functions, but also new ones that are already subject to controversy.
Your Google Phone Will Enrich Your Screenshots
The “Pixel Screenshots” feature may seem a bit fuzzy in how it works. To summarize, it allows your phone Google Pixel to add several metadata to the screenshots you take. Thus, a capture of your screen can be provided with hyperlinks, the name of the captured apps, etc. This will then allow Google’s AI to easily find your screenshot by searching in particular for applications or links present on the image.
This feature is reminiscent of another already present in the latest Windows PCs equipped with Copilot AI. Much criticized when it was announced, it allowed your computer to constantly record what you are doing on your screen in order to easily find information passed via AI.
Google explains, however, that its “Pixel Screenshots” feature runs entirely locally on your phone and that no data is sent to any servers. We will therefore have to wait until August 13 for the manufacturer’s official conference to see what it’s all about.
