Turkish authorities have arrested one suspect in the explosion.

Five people have been killed and 63 injured in an explosion in the western Turkish city of Izmir on Sunday afternoon. Authorities say a propane tank exploded at a local restaurant.

The explosion, captured by security cameras, wreaked havoc on the street and caused minor damage to surrounding buildings. Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya said on social media that dozens of rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. He also published a video of the explosion recorded by a security camera on the messaging service X.

Governor of Izmir Suleiman Elba has visited the injured in the hospital, and according to him, 40 of them would have already made it home.

Turkish authorities have arrested one suspect in the explosion. The man had replaced the propane tank with a new one on Saturday.
