The far-right National Union (RN), which has continued to increase its votes in the last 3 elections in France, came in first place by a wide margin with 31.4 percent in the European Parliament (EP) elections on June 9, upon which President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the Parliament. It had decided to hold early elections, with the first round on June 30 and the second round on July 7.

FAR-RIGHT IS LEADING THE RACE

In the first round of early general elections in France, the far-right is leading the race with 34 percent of the votes, according to exit polls.

SHOWS WERE ORGANIZED

The rise of the far-right in the country has led to protests, with demonstrations held in many cities.

In France, many centrist parties have called for cooperation against the far-right, and the left-wing Socialist Party (PS), Unsubmissive France (LFI), The Greens (EELV) and the Communist Party of France (PCF) have announced that they will act together and have decided to enter the election under the name of the New Popular Front Alliance.

The far-right RN formed an alliance with Eric Ciotti, leader of the centre-right Republicans (LR) Party, and some LR members, while the ruling party Rönesans and its partners MoDem and Horizons Party formed the Alliance Together for the Republic.

HE WILL NOT RESIGN

President Macron, whose term of office will expire in April 2027, announced that he will not resign even if the far-right RN party gains a majority in the Parliament.
