Until September 15 you risk a fine of 135 euros

From July 1 and until mid-September, motorists and two-wheelers will no longer be able to drive on these traffic lanes located on the main roads.

Throughout the summer, from July 1st to September 15th, certain roads will no longer be permitted for motorists or two-wheelers. These include the main roads in the Paris region, but also the Paris ring road, which is likely to be more congested than usual. Certain priority vehicles will be able to circulate there under certain conditions, while others who do not respect this new rule are liable to a fine of 135 euros.

These “Paris 2024” lanes are in fact reserved for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Decree No. 2022-191 of February 16, 2022 details the vehicles authorized to circulate on this lane such as taxis (but not VTCs), emergency , law enforcement, public transport vehicles and those intended to facilitate the transport of people with reduced mobility, as well as sports delegations and the games organizing committee.

During this summer period from July 1 to September 15, it will be easy to identify these prohibited lanes since a signaling system will be applied both on the permanent reserved lanes, and on those which are dedicated to the Olympic Games at certain time slots by signs and ground markings featuring either the Olympic logo or the words “Paris 2024”.

Law enforcement will be responsible for monitoring compliance with these new measures, and radars equipped with LAPI (Automatic License Plate Recognition) technology will be able to detect unauthorized vehicles on these lanes by issuing tickets. Be careful, the fine of 135 euros can be accumulated as many times as a motorist crosses this line or drives on these lanes reserved for the 2024 Olympic Games.

In total, 185 km of lanes will be reserved on the roads around Paris. Concerning the roads, the Olympic lanes serving the competition sites will be activated from July 15:

  • A1 between Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Porte de la Chapelle until September 11
  • A4 between Collégien and Porte de Bercy until August 13 then from August 30 to September 8
  • A12 between Rocquencourt and Montigny le Bretonneux until August 13 then from August 27 to September 8
  • A13 between Porte Maillot and Rocquencourt until August 13 then from August 27 to September 8
