There was a health scandal in the Gaziantep and Adana spiral that made us say ‘this cannot happen’. Buğra Koç, the son of Hatice-Süleyman Koç couple living in Gaziantep, suddenly fell ill in 2021 when he was 3 years old. Despite all the tests performed on 3-year-old Buğra, whom the family urgently took to the hospital with complaints of persistent high fever, a clear diagnosis could not be made.
HEALTH SCANDAL IN GAZİANTEP THAT MAKES YOU SAY ‘THAT CANNOT HAPPEN’
HE RECEIVED CHEMOTHERAPY FOR 2.5 YEARS WITH A WRONG DIAGNOSIS
Finally, the family applied to two separate state hospitals in Gaziantep and Adana, and were told that they needed to start chemotherapy treatment immediately after being diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) at the hospital in Adana. Following the doctors’ diagnosis, little Buğra, who was 3 years old at the time, was given chemotherapy and cortisone treatment. During this period, the little boy’s hair fell out due to the effects of the treatment and medication, and he began to gain excessive weight.
THE TRUTH TURNED OUT COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY, THE FAMILY COMPLAINED FROM THE DOCTOR!
After approximately 2.5 years of treatment and no improvement, the Hatice-Süleyman Koç couple applied to a private hospital in Adana. After extensive examinations at the private hospital, it was stated that little Buğra suffered from febrile-inflammatory rheumatism, also known as systemic jia, and his treatment was vaccination, which should be administered every 2 weeks. Mother Hatice Koç, who had a very difficult time during the process, said that they received chemotherapy treatment for no reason and stated that they were on the verge of a bone marrow transplant, said that they complained about the responsible doctors.
“FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING, THEN THEY DIAGNOSIS”
Explaining the difficult times they went through, mother Hatice Koç said, “In 2021, there was no private hospital in Gaziantep that we did not go to due to high fever. We stayed in all of them for a week. During that time, all the teachers came to us and said, ‘We cannot reduce the child’s infection, there is something else in your child.’
We went to a public hospital in Adana. They said that by taking fluid from his waist, the results would take up to 2 months. They gave us cortisone treatment. We returned to our home. Everything was fine. Then the child began to swell. When we went to our doctor at the end of two months, they said there was nothing wrong with your child. We returned home in good condition.
Exactly 10 days later, the child started to have the same complaints again. We called Adana, they told us to bring the child and we did. Afterwards, they told us ‘we need to start chemotherapy for your child’. It was said that our child had a disease called hemophagocytic syndrome and a sentence was made such as ‘I wish he had cancer and this disease did not exist’.
