The fire brigade was called out tonight around 18:00 for a report of a possible drowning person. The person was said to be lying in the water of the Scheltussingel in Amersfoort. According to the fire brigade, passers-by saw a bag with clothes and footprints heading towards the water. Two diving teams searched for an hour, but found nothing. “We always assume the golden hour, after that the chance of survival of any possible victim is zero,” says a spokesperson. It is also possible that no one was in the water. The police are now taking over the case and are examining the items found to track down the owner. “All scenarios are still open,” says a police spokesperson.
