Many people want someone to water the flowers or take care of their pets when they are away, and then a temporary change of residence can be practical. During holidays, it is becoming increasingly common for private individuals to exchange homes temporarily with each other.

However, doing this is not without risk.
On the Internet, there are many people who post ads for apartments that you can temporarily rent. If you rent or exchange, you must be careful, says Anders Lindhjem who is claims preventer at Länsförsäkringar Älvsborg.

Secure the details before you go on holiday
In an interview with P4 Sjuhärad, he says that there is a lot to do before agreeing to change homes during the holidays.
– Find out: Who do I trade with? Who will live with me? Do they exist? Is the apartment available? Make sure that both parties have home insurance, says Lindhjem to the channel.
It may seem obvious to ensure these things before the exchange takes place. Something that is not as obvious is that home insurance does not apply if you invite someone else to live in your home.
– Should something be stolen, or if you issue any damage to the home that is not natural, the insurance does not apply because you have given these people access to your home.

First things first: Vote
Perhaps the first thing you should do before going through with the apartment change is to coordinate with your landlord or housing association.
– If it is an apartment you are renting, you should check with the landlord and if it is a condominium, you should check with the association that it is ok, says Lindhjem to P4.
