The space company Space X has been tasked with building the vehicle that will take the International Space Station ISS down to Earth for a final rest, according to the US space agency Nasa.

The ISS, the first parts of which were sent up in 1998, is expected to have to be scrapped by 2030. Parts of the material from which the space station is constructed will burn up on entry into the atmosphere, but large parts are expected to land in the Pacific Ocean.

The contract is worth roughly SEK 5.9 billion.
