Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm was once one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. In June 2020, however, he was permanently banned. For a long time, the reasons for the ban were unclear. Now, on the evening of June 25, the streamer has responded to allegations made by a former Twitch employee and he doesn’t look good at all.
This article was created using the breaking process and has been supplemented several times.
This is the situation:
On the night of June 25, DrDisrespect finally published another statement on X.
DrDisrespect confirms allegations, but puts them into perspective: “I am not a pedo”
What kind of statement is that? In his post, DrDisrespect confirms that he did indeed exchange private messages with a minor in 2017. These messages “sometimes went too far in the direction of being inappropriate,” the streamer explains.
However, he stresses that there were no “real intentions” behind the messages. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were exchanged, no crimes were committed. DrDisrespect explicitly says that he did not meet the person.
The streamer points out several times that his behavior was legal from a criminal perspective. Although he had a civil dispute with Twitch over his contract, he was never prosecuted.
From a moral standpoint, however, DrDisrespect admits wrongdoing. As an adult, as a husband, as a father, he should never have had these conversations. But he also says:
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen all the comments and labels that are thrown around so casually. Social media is a zone of destruction. I’m not a fucking sex offender or a pedophile. Are you kidding me? Anyone who really knows me knows how I feel about these things when it comes to these types of people. Fuck it. That’s a whole other level of disgust that I don’t even want to hear about. Don’t label me the worst of the worst with your hyperbole. Fuck off with that shit.
Despite everything, the streamer does not want to end his career: He again refers to a “long vacation” that he wants to take with his family. After that, however, he wants to stream again. “They want me to disappear… yeah, as if,” says DrDisrespect in conclusion.
However, it is currently uncertain whether the streamer will still have a career to return to.
Long-time companions turn away
How is the statement received? Not particularly good. In the comments, many users make it clear that they are not very interested in the extensive statement, as the core issue remains that there were inappropriate messages between the streamer and a minor.
Friendly content creators are also turning away from DrDisrespect. Nickmercs and TimTheTatMan published videos on X almost simultaneously in which they appear shirtless and distance themselves from the streamer.
Nickmercs calls DrDisrespect’s behavior “inexcusable” and explains: They played a lot together, and it’s a weird feeling now (via X). TimTheTatMan explains: If these messages really did exist in the form described by the streamer, he cannot support it (via X).
Business partners stop cooperation
In addition, business partners have stopped working with DrDisrespect. Gaming headset manufacturer Turtle Beach terminated its partnership with the streamer in 2020, but did not comment further. The merchandise page on the company’s website appears to have been removed.
After DrDisrespect had already been officially kicked out of the gaming studio Midnight Society, which he co-founded, the studio boss now published a personal statement on his X account. It says in short: “If you send inappropriate messages to a minor, I cannot work with you. Period.”
So it is questionable whether DrDisrespect can actually just return to streaming after his “time out” as if nothing had happened.
