The 2024 edition of the Wimbledon tournament will be held from July 1 to 14, in London.
While the main Wimbledon tournament will begin on Monday July 1, qualifying for the Grand Slam on grass began this Monday June 24, with good results for the French. Number one seed in qualifying, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard managed his first round perfectly against his compatriot Ugo Blanchet. He will meet another Frenchman in the second round, Antoine Escoffier. It also goes for Maxime Janvier, Hugo Gaston, Benjamin Bonzi or Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Lucas Pouille and Richard Gasquet also passed the first round, unlike Benoit Paire and Terence Atmane, the only real disappointment this Monday.
Among the girls, there are ten French women to begin their qualifications this Tuesday, with Kristina Mladenovic, Chloé Paquet, Fiona Ferro and Léolia Jeanjean to follow. Outside of the cut for the main draw, former world number one Naomi Osaka, Angélique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki benefited from a wild card.
Jannik Sinner favorite?
While Rafael Nadal decided to skip the grass season to prepare for the Olympic Games, his future doubles partner in Paris Carlos Alcaraz will inevitably be one of the favorites for the final victory, with a title to defend on Center Court. To do this, he will need the new world number one Jannik Sinner, who won the Halle tournament last week.
We thought the package of Novak Djokovic almost recorded after his meniscus fracture during Roland-Garros and the operation that followed, but the Serb is finally present in London. If his participation in the tournament has not yet been confirmed, the seven-time winner at the All England Club is training and hopes to be able to match the eight titles of Roger Federer.
On the French side, Ugo Humbert and Adrian Mannarino can hope for good results, getting closer to the top 10 in the ATP rankings and especially for Humbert to get back on track before the Olympic Games tournament in Paris in a few weeks.
For the ladies, Iga Swiatek still waiting for his first title in London. She has greatly improved her service in recent weeks, and should arrive in London with the status of favorite. This will also be the case for Aryna Sabalenka, whose serve and power can do damage on the London turf. The defending champion Marketa Vondrousova, however, is not among the first names cited for the final victory even if we will have to be wary of her, just like Elena Rybakina who will be victorious in 2022.
