Ten children in Gaza lose at least one leg a day

Ten children per day lose at least one leg in the conflict-ridden Gaza.
This is what Unrwa director Philippe Lazzarini believes, according to AFP.
– This means around 2,000 children after more than 260 days of this brutal war, he says at a press conference in Geneva.

260 days have passed since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began. Since then, an average of ten children every day have lost at least one of their two legs.

This is stated by Unrwa director Philippe Lazzarini at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday. Citing figures from the UN children’s agency Unicef, he said the figure “doesn’t even include the arms or the hands, and of that we have many more cases”.

– Ten per day, that means around 2,000 children after more than 260 days of this brutal war, says Lazzarini.

He also reported that amputation often takes place under “terrible conditions” and without anesthesia.

The money is running out

In addition, the UNRWA chief states that the aid to Gaza is beginning to run out and that they are facing a crisis.

– We have money until the end of August, says Philippe Lazzarini.

According to the aid organization, they have a deficit of about 140 million dollars. Unrwa basically coordinates all aid to Gaza.

So far, at least 37,658 people have been killed since the start of the war on October 7, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
