It is the 12th of July 2007. The US is still at war in Iraq and on this very day something happens that years later will shock the world.
But it is only on April 5th 2010 that the outside world learns what has happened. Then the whistleblower site Wikileaks releases a video dubbed “Collateral Murder” – a clip showing how the crew of an AH-64 Apache suddenly opens fire on a group of people in Baghdad. Laughter can be heard in the clip.
Several people, including two journalists, perish. All are civilians.
Julian Assange is accused of espionage
The US defense minister at the time, Robert Gates, criticizes Wikileaks – but it is not possible to stop the images from continuing to spread in the major media.
The disclosure becomes Wikileaks’ first world news. But the site, whose spokesperson is Julian Assange, will continue to release leaked material from, among other things, the war in Afghanistan. Something that makes Julian Assange a thorn in the side of the United States, which accuses him of espionage.
In the clip above, you see the story of Wikileaks and Julian Assange.
