Zelenskiy orders purge of State Guard

After two officers were accused of plotting the assassination of high-ranking officials, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has ordered a purge of Ukraine’s state guard service.
– The body must be purged of everyone who does not choose Ukraine or discredits the state guard service, Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

Ukraine’s State Security Service (SBU) said last month it had arrested two guards colonels accused of collaborating with Russia to plot the assassination of President Zelensky and other officials, including military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov. It reports The Guardian.

The murder of Zelenskyi would be a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the SBU.

Zelenskiy orders purge

Now Zelenskiy has ordered a purge of anyone in the state guard service who is not loyal to Ukraine. On Telegram, Zelensky writes:

“And, of course, the body must be purged of anyone who does not choose Ukraine or discredits the state guard service.”

Oleksiy Morozov is given the main responsibility for the purge and becomes the new head of the guard service. His predecessor, Serhiy Rud, was fired in May after the two employees were arrested in connection with the assassination plots.
