Apple Intelligence will be reserved for a limited number of iPhones. The reason is that the insufficient storage space will not be able to contain the new features of the IOS 18 update.
Lately, the new Apple Intelligence system has been getting a lot of attention. After being delayed in Europe due to the incompatibility of certain options with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a new limitation, this time technical, hits users with a iPhone.
During the day of Monday June 24, 2024, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman revealed that some iPhones, although very recent, will not be able to support the functionalities of the new AI system developed by Apple. It is therefore the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models that are impacted.
The reason is simple: the amount of active memory (RAM) available on these two smartphone models is not sufficient to contain the new options offered by Apple Intelligence. “The tech giant determined internally a few months ago that 8GB of RAM was the minimum needed to run Apple Intelligence,” Gurman explained in his Power On newsletter. Thus, the two models of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus equipped with 6 GB RAM are not powerful enough to run Apple Intelligence.
This is why it seems that the next generation of iPhone will be equipped with at least 8 GB of RAM to support the new options offered by the Apple Intelligence service. According to the Bloomberg journalist’s assertions, the Cupertino company is working to increase the RAM of the iPhone 16 to make it a significant selling point. Case to be continued since the brand will meet all the curious in September 2024 to attend its back-to-school keynote.
