For the PDCI, this tour aims to “ listen to the Ivorians “. Nawa is one of the three regions won, in 2023, by the PDCI. This party is well aware of this: Lower Sassandra is an important reservoir of votes.
“ It is a dense area with around 2 million inhabitants. This is at least 40% of voters who appear on the electoral list after the district of Abidjan », Explains Soumaïla Bredoumy, spokesperson for the PDCI. “ This is also where the registration rate on the electoral list remains low “, he continues. “ We need to educate citizens », underlines this manager who identifies difficulties of access and problems with administrative documents.
For the PDCI, “cis a very good thing »
By starting this tour outside the Baoulé center, its traditional stronghold, the PDCI wants to reach more people, as political scientist Geoffroy-Julien Kouao, a lawyer, notes: “ The autonomous district of Bas-Sassandra, in general, is a summary of the diversity of the Ivorian population. In addition to the natives, we have non-natives. Don’t forget that this is a cocoa growing area and therefore has a large population. It is a very good thing that the PDCI has such an approach. »
Since the start of the year, the PDCI has been restructured with, in particular, the appointment of 16 senior representatives at the level of each district and in the diaspora, responsible for responding more quickly to the needs of activists on the ground. For Tidjane Thiam, this tour is also a way to see if this new organization is working.
