For years, Berlin YouTuber Marvin Wildhage has been known as someone who causes a stir with troll videos, but also exposes abuses. Now the Berliner has pulled off a coup that is seeking attention across Germany: he bypassed all security precautions and sneaked into the opening match of the European Football Championship.
Who is this? Marvin Wildhage is a YouTuber who attracts attention with “pranks” that somehow serve a higher purpose. He doesn’t just throw a suitcase into the crowd, shout “bomb” and jump away like real rabbits do. Most of the time he wants to reveal that something isn’t quite right and how easy it is to manipulate things or people:
It’s easy to fool him, but UEFA?
Wildhage feels the consequences: stadium ban, public criticism
These are the consequences for him: As Wildhage says in a new video, he was detained in the stadium after the incident while his personal details were recorded and he was “definitely” questioned by a public prosecutor. He was allowed to go that night. But Wildhage is not complaining – the police officers in particular behaved impeccably towards him.
After the action, he lost two cooperation partners who distanced themselves from him. He believes this could be because they may want to work with UEFA in the future. However, he was also offered support by other partners.
In addition, he was banned from the stadium after the action (via tagesschau) and was described as a “nutcase” by the head of the Bavarian police union. Other media have also criticized him: He defends himself against the insinuation, which was expressed in the program “SternTV”, that he is only doing it for clicks and money.
Wildhage seems proud of his action and sees himself in the tradition of Böhmermann
This is how he sees himself: He sees himself in the tradition of Jan Böhmermann with his video on the topic “Schwiegertochter gesucht” (“Looking for a daughter-in-law”): Although his video is entertaining in itself, it also exposes abuses.
In the video, he lists some of the weaknesses in the security concept that made it so easy for him to get into the stadium.
Apparently, his video has now led to some security measures in football stadiums being improved, he says.
He says his video with the mascot was actually the number one trending video on YouTube, but he believes “someone intervened” to make it disappear from the trending list quickly. The video has still garnered two million views.
Even if he suppresses it somewhat, he seems to be proud of the action and cites several media reports from the “best journalists in the country” who understand what he wanted to achieve with his action.
Wildhage had only made fun of the DFB team at the beginning of June 2024 and had already attracted trouble: A YouTuber makes fun of the DFB team, lawyer sees 3 possible criminal offenses in the action
