Armenia recognizes Palestine as an independent state, the government announced on Friday.
A number of countries have recognized the state of Palestine amid the war between Israel and Hamas, which has led to strong protests from Israel.
Armenia refers to Israel’s warfare in the Gaza Strip and underlines that the country opposes the use of violence against civilians.
“Reaffirming its commitment to international law, equality between nations, sovereignty and peaceful coexistence, the Republic of Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine,” the government announced in a statement.
So far, 145 of the UN’s 193 member states have now recognized Palestine as an independent state, including Sweden, and most recently Norway, Spain and Ireland.
