Man in Bohuslän sentenced – dragged puppy after bicycle

It was in November last year that the man took a bicycle ride in a municipality in Bohuslän. But there was something about the crew that made passers-by react. A lifeless puppy was being dragged on a leash behind the bicycle.

The puppy, which was six months old, was so badly injured that it later died. The man has stated to the County Administrative Board that the dog was probably strangled to death on its leash. Now the authority bans him from owning animals indefinitely.

“Anyone who has an animal ban can apply for the animal ban to be lifted or changed, for example to a less comprehensive animal ban. Then the person who has an animal ban needs to describe how the conditions have changed and why the ban is no longer needed,” writes the County Administrative Board in the decision.

Previously convicted of a similar crime

The man has been on the authorities’ radar for a long time because of his way of handling animals. Earlier in 2023, he was convicted of breaching the Dogs and Cats Control Act – this following repeated complaints that his dogs were running loose on the streets.

The County Administrative Board had initially tried to persuade the man to keep the dogs on a leash, but video evidence from neighbors showed that he ignored the call.
