There will be a preload for the upcoming DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” for Elden Ring on June 19th. You can find out which platforms will benefit from a preload and what else you should know about the release here.
When does the release start? The Elden Ring: DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2024 at midnight (00:00 German time). There will also be a preload and day-one patch.
Will there be a preload? The upcoming DLC for Elden Ring “Shadow of the Erdtree” is supposed to receive an official preload before the release. This will start 2 days before the release and only on the PlayStation. So you can expect an update on June 19th at 00:00 German time. Xbox and PC players will miss out and will not get a preload.
How big will the preload be? According to the X-Account “PlaystationSize” (source: x.com), the preload is 16,502 GB. It is not known whether this is the PS5 or PS4 version. Please note that this is unofficial information. It is possible that the file is even larger or smaller.

Will there be any downtime? That is not yet entirely clear. The official X-Account of Elden Ring only announces another patch for the release, which will roll out on June 20th. The servers will be maintained from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., but it is not known whether the multiplayer will also be affected. The patch will bring many things, including “quality of life” improvements such as (source: x.com):
On PS5, players have to download 11,817 GB and on PS4, 13,267 GB.
Will there be queues? There have never been queues in Elden Ring or previous Souls games from FromSoftware. The only problem that could arise would be server instability in co-op rounds or PvP matches. However, if you are more of a solo player and don’t want to play with other players at first, you can play the DLC offline.
