The Coordinator of France Insoumise, invested by the New Popular Front, is a candidate for re-election in the 4th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône. Is he the favorite in these 2024 legislative elections?
Manuel Bompard is putting his mandate as deputy back into play in these legislative elections. The Coordinator of La France Insoumise (LFI), will try to win a new election in his constituency, the 4th of Bouches-du-Rhône. He is invested by the New Popular Front, this left-wing coalition that he helped build after the dissolution of the National Assembly. Will it be renewed without difficulty?
As a reminder, during the European elections last June, the RN largely won at the national level with a score of 31%, allowing them to send 30 deputies to the European Parliament. On the other hand, in the 4th constituency of Bouches du Rhône, LFI came in first with more than 41% of the votes, followed by the Socialist Party/Place publique (14%) and the National Rally (13%). And it is precisely in this constituency that former MEP Manuel Bompard is running for the early legislative elections scheduled for June 30 and July 7.
In pole position in this Bouches-du-Rhône constituency
Manuel Bompard was nominated by the New Popular Front (NFP) in a constituency he knows well. Indeed, in 2022, during the last legislative elections, the first round saw LFI crush the competition thanks to the same Manuel Bompard (56%) ahead of Najat Akodad (14%) for the majority. In the second round, the left won very clearly, winning 73% of the votes ahead of the presidential party.
What are the chances for Manuel Bompard to be elected to the 2024 legislative elections?
It would be a lie not to give Manuel Bompard favorite in this 4th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône, won over to the cause of the left, in view of the legislative elections two years earlier. The real suspense will rather be knowing who will manage to advance to the second round. Precisely, let us note that for these 2024 Legislative Elections, the outgoing deputy and Coordinator of LFI will face several other left-wing candidates, such as Stéphane Pernice, invested by Divers extreme left, Leila Behaira for Divers Ecologistes or even Isabelle Bonnet for Lutte Ouvrière. The majority, a competitor to Manuel Bompard two years earlier, will be represented by Malika Torchi, and the National Rally by Aurélie Quinquis.
Regarding the polls at the national level for these 2024 legislative elections, the fight rages between the two main forces in the country. The National Rally remains above the 30% voting intention mark in the latest poll published by Ifop for LCI. It even reached the symbolic bar of a third of voting intentions and distanced the left coalition – the New Popular Front – (28%), which was placed in second position. Hence the importance for Manuel Bompard of achieving a good score in a constituency related to the left.
