Gabriel Attal, Jordan Bardella and Manuel Bompard will participate in a televised debate on June 25, five days before the first round of the early legislative elections.
As the early legislative elections approach on June 30 and July 7, the political class seems to have divided into three very distinct clans. On the one hand, the majority coalition united under the name “Together for the Republic”, of which Prime Minister Gabriel Attal was the spokesperson. On the other, the winner of the last election, the National Rally, which is already proposing to appoint Jordan Bardella to Matignon in the event of victory in the legislative elections. And finally, the New Popular Front, the left-wing union whose leader is struggling to be designated. However, one figure has just stood out from the others: that of Manuel Bompard. The rebellious MP has, in fact, accepted a televised debate with Gabriel Attal and Jordan Bardella on June 25.
Five days before the first round of voting, the representatives of the three predominant blocs will confront their vision and their project for France. TF1 announced this Wednesday the holding of such an event orchestrated by Gilles Bouleau and Anne-Claire Coudray.

Mélenchon finally ousted
Last week, the name of Jean-Luc Mélenchon was mentioned to take part in such an event in the campaign. However, the former presidential candidate is not unanimous and seems to want to move further into the background. Last Thursday, the rebellious leader finally responded to the invitation from TF1 and France 2 and declined the offer, ensuring that “the New Popular Front had not yet designated its prime minister candidate. It is therefore up to the leaders of the major parties in our coalition to go to this type of debate. Conversely, Gabriel Attal quickly said he was “favorable” to such a debate while Jordan Bardella did not comment on the subject.
Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the Ecologists, explained to Public Senate why Manuel Bompard was chosen. After negotiations, the New Popular Front agreed that each party representative would “each go to a debate.” Thus, “Manuel Bompard will be on TF1, Olivier Faure will be on France 2, I will take care of the BFMTV debate which will take place between the two rounds and the Communist Party will be our representative in the CNews debate”, she clarified.
Manuel Bompard will therefore have to find his place between two adversaries who already faced each other a month ago. In the middle of the European campaign, on May 23 on France 2, the Prime Minister and the leader of the RN had, in fact, debated in front of nearly 3.6 million viewers.
This is a crucial debate for the two opposition leaders who hope to obtain an absolute or at least relative majority at the end of these anticipated legislative elections in order to impose cohabitation on the President of the Republic from July. According to a survey carried out by Ifop for LCI As of June 18, the National Rally has currently received 33% of voting intentions in the first round, followed by the NFP with 28%. The presidential camp is falling behind with only 18% of voting intentions.
