According to Yonhap, South Korean President Yoon spoke at the meeting on “low birth rate and aging population” at the Seongnam R&D Center in the south of the capital Seoul.

Stating that the government will make every effort to combat the low birth rate, Yoon said, “Today, I am officially declaring a demographic national emergency. We will activate a comprehensive intervention system until the low birth rate problem is overcome.” said.
Yoon said that in this context, they will focus on three main areas: “balancing work and life, improving child care and providing better housing.”
Promising to increase support for child care and expand after-school programs in primary schools to ease the educational burden on parents, Yoon noted that the Ministry of Population Strategy Planning will be temporarily established to ensure the implementation of the measures.

South Korea ranked first among the countries with the lowest birth rate in 2023, with 0.72.
The data shared by the South Korean Statistical Institute on the number of newborn children on March 19 showed that the downward trend in the annual number of births in the country in recent years continued.
