In February 2022, Jenny and Anders moved in together – they had settled on a magnificent floor at one of Sweden’s absolute most expensive addresses. Namely Villagatan on Östermalm in Stockholm.

– The apartment is from the turn of the century and is so incredibly nice and has a lot of character. We agree that we want to work with that character, and not against it. We also agree on what feeling we want to create, Jenny told in an interview with Aftonbladet.

When Jenny and the family were settled, Jenny talked about the joy of the new home.

“Before and after. After toil, sweat and thrashing, we’re done. So very happy about it. And grateful. We have a home. Finally!”, Jenny Alversjö wrote on Instagram to a series of photos that showed how they renovated the magnificent floor.

Jenny and Anders’ apartment is 120 square meters, and they have preserved all the beautiful period details such as door panels, tiled stoves and chest panels. The unique house in what is known as Villastaden was designed according to the Building Register by the architects Gustaf Lindgren and Kasper Salin.

During his time, the latter designed several well-known buildings in Stockholm such as Östermalmshallen, while Gustaf Lindgren is best known for having designed the Whitlock house on Lill-Jan’s plan and the police house on Kungsholmen in Stockholm.

In the quarters you can also really feel the beat of history. Ivar Kreuger lived for many years at Villagatan 13, and later also Jan Stenbeck’s Father Hugo Stenbeck.

Other known residents are the director Ingmar Bergman who for a time in his life lived at number 22. The actor also lived in that house Jarl Kulle.

Villagatan 13 is probably the most famous house on the street. Some of Sweden’s most famous people have lived here – from Ivar Kruger to Lena Philipsson. The prices per square meter are usually some of the highest in the country, and when Sweden’s most expensive addresses are named each year, Villagatan is usually at the top – together with exclusive addresses in Bromma.

According to recent figures from Swedish Real Estate Statistics, Önskeringsvägen in Bromma is the most expensive in Sweden, closely followed by Villagatan. Villagatan tops the list of the most expensive addresses in the inner city.

Why is Villagatan so expensive? The broker Bahar Nabavi: “A desirable area”

Bahar Nabavi has been a real estate agent with Stockholm’s inner city as a focus area for almost 20 years, and works at the brokerage firm Tradition Brokeragewith offices at Kungsholmen in Stockholm.

Bahar himself lives in a villa in Bromma. But the inner city – she knows it inside and out.

Bahar Nabavi has worked as a real estate agent for almost 20 years. She works at the brokerage firm Tradition.

Why do you think that Villagatan is usually one of the most expensive addresses in Sweden?

– Villastaden with Villagatan at the head belongs to the central parts of Östermalm which are also quiet residential areas with beautiful architecture mostly from the turn of the last century. The properties are grand and palace-like, most often with representative and welcoming entrances, which of course attracts many people. It is a sought-after area where there are not that often homes for sale on the open market, which also makes it more exclusive. Many famous names have and have had floors in Villastaden, says Bahar Nabavi to Nyheter24.

She talks about Villastaden’s special architecture. No house along the short street is like what we are usually used to seeing in the inner city.

– Originally, the area was built up with noble villas for wealthy merchants and the inspiration came from England with front yards. These are large floors that are not sold very often, and the proximity to Humlegården and Karlavägen’s generous range of services makes everyday life easy. Like Lärkstaden, the area is a bit remote from the subway and classic residential areas, with that comes a quiet living environment that many appreciate.

In Östermalm, the final prices can skyrocket considerably.

– It is precisely in Östermalm that we see the highest price quotes and in the most attractive addresses such as Strandvägen, Narvavägen and the surrounding neighborhoods, the apartments cost between 160,000 – 180,000/square meter. The very best apartments can even come a bit over SEK 200,000/sqm, says Bahar to Nyheter24.

The question is whether Östermalm, together with Södermalm, is not the most celebrity-dense district. At Östermalm live among others Bianca Ingrosso, Petter Stordalen, Kristin Kaspersen, Carola Häggkvist, Steffo Törnquist, Jan Guillou, Per Gessle and Alex and Amanda Schulman.

Which addresses in Stockholm do you otherwise see a greater interest in right now? Is there a trend?

– All neighborhoods have their specific charm and target group. Common to the inner city’s most attractive homes are, of course, beautiful properties dating from the 1880s-early 1900s and preferably close to parks, nice restaurants and waterways and without heavy traffic, Bahar tells Nyheter24.

What the young buyers are especially prepared for is to have every imaginable convenience such as a washing machine, dishwasher, lift and balcony – while also wanting classic attributes from the year of construction. Ceiling height, stucco, tiled stoves, double doors and original carpentry are highly valued.

This is how much it costs to live on Villagatan

In December 2023, a 188-square-meter six-room apartment on Villagatan was sold for SEK 30 million, but the apartment that Jenny Alversjö bought may have cost around SEK 15 million, according to information that Nyheter24 has obtained.

On Instagram, Jenny occasionally shares pictures from the cozy floor, and she and her partner have decorated it so homely with everything from string lights to a small iconic photograph of John and Robert Kennedy.
