Cost. Trevor Taylor was an officer responding to reports of a woman jumping off a bridge and, arriving on the scene, he went into the frigid waters to try and reach her.

He couldn’t reach her but continued to track her movement in the water until she was caught on something downstream.

He dove in again and successfully pulled her from the water with the assistance of another officer.

“Despite the freezing weather and dangerous current, Const. Taylor’s selfless and fearless actions were instrumental in locating and attempting to save the woman,” said a Brantford Police Service news release.

Taylor’s medal and nine others were awarded by the Honorable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at a Queen’s Park ceremony on June 17.

“The courage these exceptional police officers have displayed is truly remarkable,” said Dumont.

“Each one of the recipients has gone well above and beyond their duties and we are proud to recognize the impact of their selfless service on their community and on our province.”

Other recipients honored this week were recognized for acts such as subduing an armed man, pulling a driver from a burning vehicle, entering a collapsed building to rescue those trapped and rescuing a child at risk of being stabbed.
