A new verdict in the case of the thefts at the Royal Coin Cabinet is expected today

In 2019, charges were brought against a former employee of the Royal Coin Cabinet, today the Economic Museum, for gross embezzlement. He was accused of stealing and selling various coins worth SEK 3.7 million at auction.

The man, who denies any crime and believes he inherited the coins, was acquitted in the district court and later in the court of appeal. With reference to the statute of limitations having expired, when the man acquired the coins ten years before he was served with suspicion.

A new verdict is expected today

The acquittal was appealed by the State’s historical museums and HD took it up in 2023. The Supreme Court then ruled that he can be liable for damages.

Today at 11:00 a.m. the verdict is expected to be announced.
