The security service of the Norwegian police reminds that visiting certain social media sites is already close to committing a crime.
Employees of the Norwegian police security service PST have made a surprise visit to the homes of around 12 young Norwegians this week, says Norwegian public radio NRK.
The young people were between 12 and 17 years old.
PST had discovered that they had visited pages on the messaging services Discord and Telegram, which incited acts of terrorism and the murder of homosexuals.
The young people had ended up on suspicious pages through Tiktok. Tiktok’s algorithm enables easy transition to pages whose use is close to a crime, says PST’s strategic analyst Siv Sørensen.
However, no one actively tried to attract young people to illegal activities.
The young people were not charged, but the PST wanted to meet them and tell them about the dangers that lie in innocent-looking internet surfing.
