Armand Duplantis really had a great night in Rome.
He won EC gold, broke the championship record and took home almost 600,000 kroner.
But now “Mondo” is responding to the criticism from SVT profiler Jacob Hård.
It was another historic night for Armand Duplantis during the last day of the European Athletics Championships in Rome. On Wednesday night, “Mondo” added another gold to his collection when he secured the EC gold medal quite easily.
Duplanti’s success
Then the Swedish world star raised the bar to 6.10 meters. Duplantis managed it in the first attempt and thereby secured both a new championship record and also 600,000 kroner in prize money as well.

For the first time ever, a victory bonus was awarded at an athletics European Championship, but the historic decision has also been widely criticized. Because not all gold medalists get to share in the prize money, but six million kroner is divided among ten different groups, where the one with the best results takes home the bonus.
Mondo about criticism
Duplanti’s pole vault event was therefore compared to the other events and then the Swede needed to jump at least 609 meters to get more points than the three-step winner Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortune who jumped 18.18 meters.
– The fact that he chooses 6.10 is because the European Athletics Federation has introduced prize money in this European Championship and it is a complicated and, in my eyes, slightly crazy system, said the commentator Jacob Hard in the SVT broadcast and directed clear criticism of the decision on the prize money.
– Now Duplantis will make a result that is better than the three-stage winner’s 18.18 yesterday. I personally think it’s a bit ridiculous to compare branches in that way, I actually think it’s quite impossible.

Armand Duplantis is equally satisfied with both the prize money and the fact that he improved his own championship record by 6.10 meters.
– Both are nice, says Mondo to Swedish media on site in Rome.
– I actually think that both parts gave me a little extra push to handle that height.

Now he also gives an answer to the major criticism of how the prize money is distributed.
– It’s a good system for me anyway. I won, so I’m not going to complain about it. I feel sorry for the other jumpers, I think they have second, third and fourth overall points after what they did. So I feel sorry for them, says the 24-year-old after the EC gold.
