First pictures from Ridley Scott sequel show successor in action

24 years after Gladiator, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s epic historical action film is coming to cinemas this year. The sequel, simply titled Gladiator 2, was once again directed by the director.

This time the story revolves around the now grown-up Lucius Verus, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) from part 1. He is played by Normal People star Paul Mescal. Now there is first set photos of the new leading actor.

According to the Daily Mail, the photos were taken during reshoots for Gladiator 2, which are currently taking place in Sussex, England.

In addition to Paul Mescal and Connie Nielsen, Gladiator 2 also stars Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn. A first trailer for the action sequel has not yet landed online, but has already been shown to a specialist audience and thrilled viewers with bloody rhinos and wild monkeys.
