Another strange farce in EC athletics The Frenchman made great

At the European Athletics Championships in Rome, the topic of discussion has been a peculiar mix-up.

The special events continued right from the last one at the beginning of the previous race day on Tuesday.

The men’s 10-meter competition continued with the 110-meter hurdles. Included in the medal battle is France Makenson Gletty didn’t hear the starting shot for one reason or another. The dispatcher also did not invite the runners back. Gletty also ran to the finish line in the end, but had a miserable time of 15.30.

– Gletty is absolutely fired up, certainly also very confused about this third round. If this stays like this, even the medal seams on Gletty will go here, narrator Kimmo Porttila amazed.

– This is a very confusing situation. The others leave, Gletty stays to meditate. There will be no recall, even if there is a completely uneven start, at least that’s what it’s all about. Didn’t really hear? This will surely be discussed for a long time, expert Tuomas Raja continued.

Raja vowed that it would not end in that mess

– From an athlete’s point of view, it would be a good solution to get another chance. He is doing extremely well with his record series and in the medal fight.

That’s what happened too. Gletty was allowed to run over the fence again, alone. When Gletty tuned up for his new attempt at the hurdles, the first group of 10 matches was already throwing the puck. Gletty was transferred to the latter group for the discus throw.

– Definitely a good solution, this is how it should be done in a situation like this, Raja said.

And running alone didn’t bother Gletty. The Frenchman clocked his new record time of 13.88 and fanned wildly.

– There’s a lot going on there. A long time ago, the man was full of frustration and confusion. Now the cry is coming out, Porttila explained.

Raja admired how nicely Gletty kept his head cool and used the aggression caused by the earlier confusion to his advantage.

Gletty was the only one under 14 seconds in the decathlon. He grabbed a tasty 990 points and moved to the top of the 10-game.

Gletty’s time of 13.88 is clearly better than the SE man of the trip Elmo Lakan failure in the heats of the 110m hurdles.

The decathlete Gletty would have been 16th in the heats of the 110 meter hurdles. Finland Santeri Kuusiniemi was 14th with a time of 13.84 and advanced to the semi-finals last.

An apt continuation

The European Championships in Rome have been tinged with special farces, so Gletty’s situation was an apt continuation.

For example, the information from the official results service could not be trusted, which is why both TV and radio commentators and viewers are buzzing. Familiar from the statistics workshop data bank Mirko Elm stated to Urheilu that “this is the best performance ever”.

The competition organization practically forgot about marketing, which is why ticket sales have sadly failed.

The Italian sports federation organizes the prestigious competition in the midst of fierce internal conflicts.

The queues in the room where the teams can leave their protests related to the competition situations for the referee council have been long.

Member of the board of the European Athletics Federation Antti Pilhakoski admitted that in the organization of the European Championships in Rome “there really hasn’t been top quality”.

There have also been plenty of special features in the starting situations of express trips. For example, in the men’s 100m semi-finals, the dispatcher shot the runners back due to a false start. Some stopped. Some did not hear the recall and ran to the finish line.

In the 100 meters, silver was finally won by Italy Chituru Ali, who survived his theft start with a warning in the final. Competition Manager of the Sports Association Mika Muukka saw that Ali should obviously have been disqualified.

– A completely absurd decision. As obvious a false start as can be.

Määttä’s tactics moka

Eveliina Määttänenwho was disappointed in the women’s 800m semifinals.

On Monday, Määttänen ran stylishly second in his heat with a time of 2:01.59 and took the direct continuation place. After the first set, Määttänen and the coach Jan Petrac spoke of self-confidence and stated that they didn’t even have to put everything in the game yet.

In his semi-final, Määttänen started at the top of the pack at the beginning of the latter round. However, the long race froze at the end and Määttänen finished seventh in his heat with a time of 2:01.49.

Määttänen’s record is 1:59.59 in the Stockholm Diamond League at the beginning of June. Finland’s record is Sara Lappalainen 1.59.41 from 2021.

Petrac felt that the place in the final crumbled to a tactical solution. In Petrac’s opinion, Määttänen moved to the peak position and started his fight too early.

– The pace was good in the set, so I would have hoped that he would wait longer before his final move. Not the best solution.

Määttanen agreed.

– I ran tactically, as I had thought, but maybe the first lap was brisk enough. A bit too early… I could have calmed down before I went to the top spot.

– There was just time for acid to build up in the corners to the point that the final straight no longer came out sharp. Other women are also tough.

In any case, the long letter was Määttänen’s plan. He was confident that he would get enough of the crowd with it.

After Monday’s preliminary round, the feeling was fresh.

– Due to Freesi’s condition, I dared to go to the top, but it didn’t work today.

However, the smile did not fade from the former hurdler’s face.

– Yes, I would have liked to make it to the final and I wanted to run my record, but I am in a very positive mood. I think it’s important to do this job with joy. Although this didn’t quite go well, it’s still really nice and there will be more races.

Next, Määttänen will compete in Paavo Nurme’s competitions. Then there are plans for the St. Moritz camp before the Paris Olympics.

Finland in the heats of the long relay Milja Thureson, Aino Pulkkinen, Katrina Wright and as an anchor Mette Baas ran a time of 3:26,51. It was less than a second from the Finnish record set 50 years ago. A time of 3:25,28 would have been required for the final.

Jessica Kähärä jumped his season’s best 639 in the long qualification. He was 23rd in the qualification and qualified for the final.
