Frenchman Gabriel Tual was crowned European 800m champion this Sunday June 9 in Rome, his first international title at 26 years old and less than two months before the Paris Olympic Games. Tual won in 1mn 44s 87 ahead of the Spaniard Mohamed Attaoui (1mn 45s 20) and the Italian Catalin Tecuceanu (1mn 45s 40). He brought the French team its fourth medal of the European competition, the third gold after those of Cyréna Samba-Mayela in the 100m hurdles the day before and Alice Finot in the 3000m steeplechase a few minutes earlier.
