Dramatic changes to F1 cars here are the most

The international automobile association FIA and the F1 series announced significant rule changes on Thursday, the goal of which is more exciting racing and sustainable development.

The FIA ​​and the F1 series published the rules that will come into force in F1 cars from the 2026 season. The changes are significant.

More exciting racing is aimed for with more agile cars and more active aerodynamics. The goal is also safer and more environmentally friendly spending games.

– The FIA ​​has aimed to develop a new generation of cars that are fully connected to the DNA of Formula 1 – cars that are light, extremely fast, agile and still at the forefront of technical development, FIA Technical Director Nikolas Tombazis painted.

The skills of drivers are to have an even greater importance. Ultimately, the goal is to make the F1 series an even more fascinating “spectacle”.

– New sustainable fuel hybrid power unit offers huge opportunity for global automotive industry, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali glowed.

The focus of the new concept is that the power comes 50 percent from the internal combustion engine and 50 percent from the electric battery.

According to the F1 bosses, technological development makes it possible to reduce emissions dramatically, which is why a record number of engine manufacturers have committed to the series: Ferrari, Mercedes, Alpine, Honda, Audi and Red Bull.

Below are the most important changes:

  • The cars are 30 kilograms lighter, 20 centimeters narrower and 10 centimeters shorter.
  • A redesigned power unit with a more even distribution between the combustion engine and electric power and the use of 100% renewable fuels. The power of the combustion engine drops from 550-560 kilowatts to 400, but the power obtained by electricity increases from 120 kilowatts to as much as 350.
  • The openable rear wing DRS is removed, but overtaking opportunities are increased with the Manual Override system. It allows drivers to get a short-term power boost with electric power.
  • Active aerodynamics, i.e. drivers can adjust the front and rear wings. In Z mode, the holding power is greater and the cornering speeds are better. In X mode, the downforce is reduced and the straight line speed is faster.
  • During braking, the amount of energy recovered is doubled, so the amount of energy that can be recovered is 8.5 megajoules per revolution.
  • The tires are still 18 inches, but the width of the front tires has been reduced by 25 mm and the rear tires by 30 mm.
  • In addition, there are several changes made with safety and sustainable development in mind.
