Geoff Keighley’s big gaming show, the Summer Game Fest 2024, delivered numerous trailers and announcements on the night of June 8, 2024. However, there was no trace of the hotly anticipated MMORPG Throne and Liberty – fans are worried.
Which MMORPG is it? Throne and Liberty was considered a great MMORPG hope, but disillusionment has now set in. Since the MMORPG launched in South Korea in December 2023, reports have been piling up that it is not doing well. A release date for the West is still unknown.
Before the Summer Game Fest, changelogs on the SteamDB database had given fans hope for a big announcement (via Reddit). But there has been no big news so far. On Reddit, fans are discussing what this could mean for the MMORPG.

Fans fear the release of Throne and Liberty
What are the fans afraid of? Many players see the absence of Throne and Liberty at the Summer Game Fest as a bad sign. Some fans don’t seem to be expecting a western release at all:
Fans seem to blame publisher Amazon, who was supposed to bring Throne and Liberty to the West. Instead, Amazon announced the console release of New World at the Summer Game Fest. Waiting players now fear that a console version of Throne and Liberty could follow in 2025 at the earliest (via Reddit).
And even the fans who still believe in a release are apparently looking forward to it with mixed feelings. After all, Throne and Liberty was originally supposed to have a worldwide release, but it has been playable in South Korea for months now.
“This will be like any other Asian MMO where we are always behind on updates,” writes Reddit user Comprehensive_Fee_23. Another sums up the mood: “Just sad, there’s nothing more to say.” (via Reddit)
Is there still hope? There’s still the matter of changelogs. As MMORPG.com reported, data miners had discovered several updates from Amazon Games on Steam before the Summer Game Fest, including an alleged list of 135 countries in which the MMORPG will be available, as well as references to possible “Founders Pack” DLCs.
The model with the founder’s packs reminds players of Lost Ark, which Amazon Games brought to the West in February 2022. So it cannot be ruled out that there will be news about Throne and Liberty after all.
