First look at the Rings of Power in Season 2

This season can play with what the rings do, and more importantly, what they do to our characterswhen they wear them. They change people in ways that might be good and in ways that might not be so good.

After the three Elven rings were forged at the end of season 1, the instruments of power are finally being used in season 2. We already know the elven ring bearers Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), and shipbuilder Círdan, the third member of the group, has yet to be introduced. It remains to be seen which of them will benefit from the new power. for good and who changes for evil Or could this already be referring to the dwarf rings forged by Sauron, which might even give someone like fan favorite Prince Durin (Owain Arthur) a dark twist?

Is the Lord of the Rings series planning a Galadriel reboot in season 2?

Last but not least, main character Galadriel is said to be affected by the influence of her ring Nenya. Although perhaps not in the same way as we experienced her dark transformation through Frodo’s ring temptation in The Fellowship of the Ring:

A betrayed Galadriel in Season 1 of The Rings of Power

We see a completely new side of Galadriel. She is humbled. She has had to own up to her mistakes. She has had to accept that her intuition was not always perfect. She has had to ask herself if she was wrong and decide what path she can take to right what she too has unleashed on Middle Earth.

This particular change is interesting, not least in light of the fact that many fans did not warm to Galadriel in Season 1 because they perceived the elf as arrogant and aloof. Through her Sauron error, the doubtful military leader could now be brought to a more human level.

So we have some exciting character developments to look forward to in Season 2 of The Rings of Power. Or as the older, wiser Galadriel put it in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings prologue: “The world is changing: I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, I smell it in the air.”

When does season 2 of the Lord of the Rings series start?

The fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns on 29 August 2024 returns to Amazon Prime Video with Season 2. The new 8 episodes will then be released weekly, every Friday.
