On Monday, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda held a press conference in which he admitted that the company had engaged in extensive cheating in safety tests.
From the beginning, disclosure was mainly about models from subsidiary Daihatsu, but now also applies to Toyota’s own models.

Toyota Yaris Cross gets sales freeze
One of the models covered by the cheat is as follows Japan Times the Toyota Yaris Cross small car, which is one of the most popular car models in Europe.
So far this year, it ranks 10th in sales statistics. In Japan, the model has now been discontinued.
Other models covered by the cheating are the Lexus RX, where the deviations will mainly revolve around the engine management, as well as two sedan versions of the Corolla for the Japanese market.
Cars from Mazda and Honda are also involved in the scandal.

Cheating on several points
In the case of the Toyota Yaris Cross, they allegedly cheated on safety tests.
According to the allegations, it also has insufficient data from passenger and pedestrian protection tests, and used old test data for certification after the car’s design was changed.
However, the versions of the car sold in Sweden are manufactured in France, and should not be covered by the cheating.
– The deviations in certification apply only to vehicles for the Japanese market. Vehicles sold on the European market are not covered, says Christian Hallin, PR manager for Toyota Sweden Carup.

Raid on Toyota headquarters
It doesn’t look like the problems related to the cheating will blow over for Toyota anytime soon.
The Japanese Transport Ministry has raided the company’s headquarters in Aichi, trying to secure evidence of the extent of the cheating. It reports Japan Times.
However, Toyota believes that the shortcuts it has taken do not affect the safety of the brand’s cars.
