The latest DLC for Dead by Daylight is live. But many employees aren’t happy about it – they’ve been laid off.
The new chapter “Dungeons & Dragons” has been released in Dead by Daylight. This brings truly fantastic creatures into the world of the Entity for the first time. The lich Vecna is now available as a killer and anyone who wants to can even slip into the skin of an elven bard to stand up to the new killer.
This also includes a new map and a completely new mechanic for rolling dice. But it also means major layoffs, as a total of 95 employees have had to pack their things at Behaviour.
This is what the new DLC contains: The new DLC costs 7 euros (Steam) and brings the new killer Vecna from the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Many people will already know Vecna from “Stranger Things” – even though they are similar beings, the creature in Dead by Daylight is based on the D&D template. It is a lich with magical powers and one of the biggest villains in the D&D universe.

The DLC “Dungeons & Dragons” is considered by many in the community to be one of the best DLCs to date. Not only is Vecna a really cool killer as a wizard, but interesting mechanics such as the boxes with the dice or special, enchanted items make the games with and against him particularly interesting. So it seems surprising to many that Behaviour is apparently laying off several employees at such a high point.
Which employees were laid off? The community team in particular speaks of “huge losses” that have to be accepted. This would significantly slow down the team and the community should expect that things will now run “significantly slower” because the same amount of work simply cannot be accomplished with so few people.
What reasons did Behaviour give? According to Behaviour, the reasons for the layoffs are that the company now wants to focus more on its “historical strengths” and that “several strategic decisions” have to be made due to “unprecedented competition” (via ign.com).
Behaviour had grown from 575 employees to 1,300 in recent years – now this number is shrinking again.
For many in the community, the argument about “unprecedented competition” is a little strange. Most people are sure that Dead by Daylight at least has no real competition and is basically the top dog in the genre – and has been for years. The only game that ever really had a chance was Friday the 13th The Game – which was discontinued prematurely due to copyright disputes.
However, Behaviour also says that the development of Dead by Daylight will not be affected by the layoffs.
