Blizzard breaks the “no official esports events for WoW raids” rule for Cataclysm Classic

Blizzard officials have surprisingly announced new esports events for World of Warcraft. More specifically, for WoW Cataclysm Classic. There will even be an official competition between raid guilds. Who would have thought that after all these years?

Why is this announcement noteworthy? Blizzard officials have often organized esports events for World of Warcraft in the past, and the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI for short) and the Arena World Championship (AWC) have been taking place annually for some time now.

When it came to competitive events for raid enthusiasts, however, the community has always been left to its own devices. Blizzard often only provided accompanying tweets or a mention on official channels for the world first races.

What did Blizzard announce for Cataclysm Classic? The new edition of the Cataclysm expansion will feature a speedrun guild competition called the “Dragon Slayer Challenge.” A PvP arena tournament is also planned.
