Biden, who held a press conference at the White House regarding the presidential decree in question, argued that he had previously made many calls to increase border security, but that Republicans led by former US President Donald Trump sabotaged these steps.
Biden pointed out that the USA is always open to immigrants who want to come to the country legally, but it is necessary to take steps against illegal crossings.
“Those who choose to come to the country illegally will be prevented from seeking asylum and will be prevented from remaining in the United States. This step will help us restore control and order at our borders.” Biden said that they will continue this practice until the daily number of asylum applications falls below a certain level.
Biden added that children among those who entered illegally will not be deported, and those who applied for asylum legally and made appointments will continue their procedures normally.
THEY ARE PREPARING TO FILE A LAWSUIT
On the other hand, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced that they will take the decision to court after Biden’s presidential decree begins to be implemented.
ACLU argued that a similar decision was made during the reign of former US President Trump, that decision was illegal, and that Biden’s decision was against the American Constitution.
In 2018, then-President Trump signed the “zero tolerance” decision, which stipulated the immediate deportation of all illegal immigrants entering the country’s borders, and Biden, who won the presidential elections in 2020, abolished this practice of the Trump era.
