The party of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the lead with 39.3% of the votes in the legislative elections after the counting of a quarter of the ballots, the national electoral commission said on Tuesday June 4.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its coalition allies would get at least 281 seats, according to the commission’s figures, more than the 272 needed for a parliamentary majority in the lower house.
