European elections: anti-macronism, main fuel of the National Rally

European elections anti macronism main fuel of the National Rally

A few days before the European elections, in France, it is still the list of Jordan Bardella, head of the National Rally, a populist national party, who is leading in the polls with voting intentions around 33%, far ahead of the list from the presidential camp. The RN is campaigning on the rejection of the policy led by Emmanuel Macron and hopes to capitalize on the anger of the French.

After three months of campaigning, the choreography is now well established. The speakers spit out deafening electro music. Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella make their entrance under a cloud of blue-white-red flags and the member of Parliament for Pas-de-Calais, three-time presidential candidate, warms up the room. “ There is something telluric in this phenomenon which will give rise to the hope of millions of French people and Europeans who can no longer bear being despised. The people vote, the people win », chants Marine Le Pen.

Jordan Bardella, social media star, takes over on stage and extols the pride of being French. “ France, because it is France, is only itself when it is in the front row. »

Faced with the two leaders of the National Rally, young people, many young people. At the Dôme de Paris on Sunday, Chloé and Hugo, barely 20 years old, tell us why they are going to vote for the National Rally, with “Roll to June 9” caps on their heads, the campaign slogan. “ We would like things to change and things to go back to the way they were before, for there to be more order in France and I think that with Bardella, that could perhaps change. When he talks about immigration, there are some ideas that are quite good », Explains the young woman. “ There, it’s no longer possible, it’s a general feeling of fed up. All these problems of insecurity, the fact that we are losing purchasing power, all that, needs to change. Quite simply because we’re all fed up with it, in fact », adds Hugo.

Anti-macronism

At the back of the room, on the folding seats, the average age of the activists is higher. We come across a retiree, who came by bus from the Ardennes with around fifty party members. He is a former left-wing voter. “ Since Mitterrand, nothing has worked. Change is needed. Already, if they can do something for salaries, for people who work, who can no longer even live. It’s still sad the purchasing power, all the increases in electricity, gas, everything. »

The anger of the French and anti-Macronism as the main driving force of the RN. On stage, the three-time presidential candidate is already looking ahead to 2027 and calls on the French to sanction Emmanuel Macron. “ On June 9, we will first have to remind him that in a democracy, there is only one master of the clocks, the people », proclaims Marine Le Pen.

Not a meeting without a call for mobilization. “ The campaign is not over because nothing has been won. I ask you to help me », asks Jordan Bardella. Because the candidate knows it: if he wants to transform the test and inflict a large defeat on the Macronists, participation must be there this Sunday.
