56 – World Environment Day

Why is World Environment Day celebrated?

World Environment Day was established after the UN Environmental Conference in Stockholm in 1972 and is celebrated annually on June 5 all over the world.

The aim is to draw attention to environmental issues and raise awareness of the importance of protecting our planet and its natural resources.

How is World Environment Day celebrated on June 5?

In Sweden, World Environment Day is observed in different ways.

Keep Sweden Clean encourages people to go out and pick up litter to contribute to a cleaner environment. The Nature Conservation Association in Skåne is planning a demonstration on both sides of the Öresund to draw attention to the strait.

Many other organizations and associations organize activities, exhibitions and events to spread knowledge about environmental issues and inspire environmentally friendly actions.

World Environment Day is an opportunity for individuals, communities and nations to get involved in environmental work by participating in clean-up actions, planting trees, arranging seminars or carrying out campaigns to reduce emissions and waste. It is a day of reflection and action for a greener and more sustainable future.
