Sweden unusually cheap for tourists: “People tell horror stories”

The purchasing power of foreign tourists has increased against the Swedish krona in the last ten years. Germans, French and Danes have gained almost 30 percent in increased purchasing power, while Americans and Swiss have increased their purchasing power by over 60 percent, according to Bloomberg.

– It is definitely much cheaper here than in the USA, says Alex Rodriguez from the USA.

Paul Lewis visits Stockholm with his wife Nadine Lewis. He also feels that it is cheap in Sweden.

– People tell horror stories about how expensive it is in Sweden, but since we live in London it’s not that bad. Both alcohol and fish are not that expensive.

At the same time, there has been some talk about the risk that foreign tourists could drive up the prices of hotels, restaurants and entertainment. However, Thomas Jakobsson, chief economist at the industry organization Visita, does not agree.

– I have a hard time believing that. I don’t think it will be much more expensive than anything else. If we follow the general inflation trend, it is at about the same price levels as you can expect.
