Andreas Almgren bet on a Swedish record in Oslo.
And with a margin of almost ten seconds, the 28-year-old succeeded in his goal of 5,000 meters.
– It went according to plan, he tells SVT and laughs.
Andreas Almgren has, to say the least, sharpened the form for the championship summer that awaits.
The 28-year-old beat his own Swedish record by a landslide, running an incredibly strong 12.50.94 in the 5,000 meters during the Diamond League competition in Oslo.
Almgren’s success
The previous record, which Almgren himself broke two weeks ago at Stockholm’s stadium, was 12.59.84, which meant that Almgren beat the record by almost ten seconds.

The Swede opened at high speed right away. After two of five kilometers, Almgren was two seconds ahead of the Swedish record. But despite that, he had difficulty following the lead, and after half the race there was a fairly large gap between the tight cluster of the top nine and the cluster that Almgren was in.
The front pack continued to pile on and winner Hagos Gebrhiwet of Ethiopia ran in an impressive 12.36.73, the second fastest time ever, and just over a second off the world record.
Still dissatisfied
Andreas Almgren finished in eighth place, but was no less happy for it after his super race.
– The two weeks after the race at the Stadium, I feel that the form has only gone straight up. So yesterday at the press conference they asked me what I thought, and then I said that I probably have ten seconds left in my body. Now I got nine of them out, in any case, says Almgren to SVT and laughs.

But despite the super time, there are additional levels in the body, he says in SVT’s broadcast.
– That I’m doing 12.50 now, it feels very good. I ran 18 miles last week, so I’m still pretty much into volume training. So… Uh, now you just have to enjoy the fact that you have done this well, but there is hopefully even more there when you get to the end of the season when you are really in the last peak of form, says Almgren.
